Terms
SunProtect.me is offered free, as-is, to anyone who finds it useful. Using it means accepting what follows, which is short.
This is general information, not medical advice
This is general guidance, not medical advice. Skin type here is only an estimate, and individual sun sensitivity varies. No sunscreen filters everything, and sunscreen is not a reason to extend a day outdoors. If you are unsure, ask a clinician or a pharmacist.
The guidance here is written for a general audience and cannot account for your circumstances. It is not a diagnosis, not a risk assessment, and not a substitute for a clinician or a pharmacist — particularly if you take a photosensitising medication, have a skin condition, are treating one, or have any reason to think your skin is more sensitive than usual.
Accuracy, and its limits
The rules the calculator applies come from the World Health Organization, DermNet and the American Academy of Dermatology, and the about page links each of them. Every figure the site prints is produced by the same function that produced the result, and the build refuses to publish a page whose numbers disagree with its arithmetic. That makes the site internally consistent. It does not make it right about you, and the estimated phototype in particular is an estimate from two questions rather than an assessment.
No warranty of any kind is given, and no liability is accepted for any loss or harm arising from use of this site. If a result looks wrong, please say so — that is the correction route, and it works.
